Fic: Drabbles
Jul. 21st, 2008 02:15 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Some time ago there was a meme going around to write a drabble about you default icon. As I did not have an LJ just yet I went through my save icon folders and wrote about the first one in each folder that I picked. Here they are now just to get my mind off them, by fandom, in no particular order.
3. Find x
She was sitting in math class, completely bored out of her mind, listening to the professor ramble on about some mathematical theory or equation or something that A) she had already learned what seemed like a hundred million times and B) even if she hadn't it was intuitive stuff; and not math intuitive but if your living with a brain you should at least be going down the path that leads to the right answer even if you never get there intuitive. Then the professor drew a triangle with the proper labels and asked if anyone could find x. she raised her hand, was called on, walked up to the board, circled the x on the triangle, wrote "here it is” and walked back to her seat not caring about the rebuke she would be getting after class.
Awesome panther
When you found the shirt, you could believe your eyes. It was perfect. Appropriately vintage, but not so obscure that you would be spend all day explaining the reference everyday you wore it. The smug look on his face, the extremely arrogant and yet not phrase accompanying the picture will make you feel empowered the entire time you are wearing it. You snatch one that says its your size, hold it up to your chest to make sure it really is your size, and hurry to the check out line before anything can change your mind.
Innocent
Her master had come home early and had almost caught her in the strawberry dish, but she, the ever vigilant and swift cat that she was had quickly moved away from the dish and, while her instinct had been to run up to her master and spread some love that would have been just as suspicious as staying near the strawberries. So she had gone to her treat bowl and asked, it was not begging no matter what that stupid tom cat from next door said, for some treats. When her master started to call her gluttonous and admonish her for getting into the strawberries and then having the nerve to ask for treat she was surprised, at least until she looked into the oven door and seen her lips, bright red, staring back at her.
1 month, 50000 words NaNoWritMo 2006
So your going to do it again. Figure maybe this year you can make it. This year you will get to 50,000 even though you didn’t even get close to it last year. This years you started planning before the beginning of the month. You have an outline and a heavy idea of what you want to happen and when. The only thing you don’t count on is three major papers and a return of you depression. Oh well, there’s always next year.
Adults are like a combination of sadness and phobia
Adults are like a combination of sadness and phobia and that’s why you don’t want to be an adult, why you’ve never wanted to be an adult. It always seems like adults hated their lives, and why you would want to seem so much time hating what you were doing. That’s why when you figured out that by society’s standards you were an adult now you became sad. That was until a little sprite whispered in your ear that by age you might be an adult but in thought, manner and spirit you could remain a child.
flying leap
He was going to do it. Today. Today he was going to do it. He didn’t care what they others thought about the idea, he didn’t care that if he failed he would either be killed or ridiculed for the rest of his life. he was going to do it. Today. Today he was going to do. Before he lost his nerve. Because he was looking at the jump and it looked pretty high. No, no chickening out, he wasn’t no tuna. So he jumped and….
He did it. He was out. He was out in the free space.
addicted to you
Standing there smoking his cigarette, he knows what they think. They think that he is addicted to cigarettes, cooking, and flirting with pretty girls. If only they knew that he would give up cigarettes and flirting with pretty girls complete for you. And though he would never be able to fully give up cooking, he would agree to only cook for you if you asked. But you wouldn’t because you would know how much cooking means to him. But you don’t care for him in that way and he knows it. So he continues to smoke, cook and flirt.
2 For 1
Yeah so they acted as if all they ever wanted, in relation to their appearance at least, was for people to be continually confused by the fact that they were identical twins. But after losing count of the number of girls that didn’t care which one of them they were with because, hey they looked and acted alike so it wasn’t like they were any different from each other, it got kinda old. All he really wanted was for one girl to like him completely for himself, and to think of his brother as something that came with him but wasn’t a clone of him.
alone again
I had gotten used to being alone. Not that I particularly like it, but I had gotten used to it. And it had stopped hurting some, ok only a little bit but it was still something. And then you came into my life and it had stopped hurting, a lot. So much so that I can’t imagine feeling so alone ever. But even in this new era of feelings I can’t help but wonder. Whats going to happen when you leave. And you will leave, everyone does. So whats going to happen. Will I fall into a slump, life continuing but with no meaning, or will I fall into a deep depression unable to continue on without you. I don’t know which would be worse.
#56 the cool one
As much as he liked to brag and act like it he had never been the cool one. He had always been the person who could get others to do what he wanted. That ability, combined with his looks generally gave the impression that he was a cool person. He didn’t have enough self-worth, or enough self-hatred, depending on which side of the equation you looked at it from. But now he had finally found a place where it didn’t matter that he wasn’t the cool one he pretended to be. He just had to be his weird self.
A little help from my friends
Couldn’t take Tony any where without him getting hurt, not even a freakin’ basketball court. Of course the injury wasn’t from the game but from Tony’s head not being in the game. He couldn’t help grinning wolfishly, at least on the inside, of course he really couldn’t blame Tony for being distracted, at least not to much. In fact he was very proud of Tony most people would have crack and made a mistake far earlier if they had to split their mind between playing a basketball game and watching their lover play with themselves as much as you could get away with in a public park.
2 Gordon's
Of course Casey was obsessing over the fact they between them they had only know two Gordon's. Two Gordon’s, both of whom had never and would never really care about Casey beyond any interference he might give to them having a relationship with Dana. Because his only other choice was to obsesses over the fact that despite the number of Dan’s (and maybe even Danny’s, ‘cause Casey was one of the few people who called him that) that he had know, the one sitting next to him was the only one that loved him, and in a “I want to spend the rest of my life with you because you make me that happy” way. That would just be to much for Casey to handle. And he know that, but it still hurt that Casey was obsessing over a man named Gordon and not him.
And remember you're the Queen!
"And remember, you’re the queen” she hears Tom yell after her and she shakes her head. That was the Tom she wanted to remember, the bright shinning man who was really a child at heart not the discontent man who had lost everything because of one mistake. While she wished that they had never gotten stuck out here, she was glad that some good had come out of it. Tom was growing into a wonderful man. Harry Kim was learning the things about life that they could never teach in classes, surround by people who would care for him. B'elanna was learning to let people in, and so many other growths, even herself. She was learning to let loose and have fun.
A life spent together
"A life spent together.” He had read that in some book when he was younger, after he had moved on from age appropriate books and his mother’s books on whatever was the current hobby that was going to revolutionize her life but before he started readings of real analysis of how humans organize themselves and why. The in between step. Fiction, but realistic. He remembers how wonderful it would be to reach the end of live and say that he had “a life spent together” with someone. As he got older he began to realize just how different he was and that he would probably never get that life and resigned himself to meaningless flings. Then he met Jim.
1 look 1000 words
'A picture wasn’t the only thing worth a thousand words’ Vivian thought while she was watching Danny look at Martin. ‘A look was worth a thousand words too if it’s given by the right person’. And oh boy was this look being given by the right person. The obvious emotion on Danny’s face was lust but beyond that was a deep sense of admiration and love. ‘Same looks on Martin’s face’ she thought next. Oh sure Martin was more reserved then Danny about most things, especially showing emotions but love like that couldn’t be hidden even by the most emotionally distant of people. ‘Glad they finally found each other, they deserve some good love in their lives’ was her last thought before looking away.
…mine
She couldn’t believe it. Even after years of working at the white house, where unbelievable things happened at least twice a day on slow day, she still couldn’t believe that here she was, a girl from Wisconsin who was never able to pick a major, let alone finish college and she was going to be running the office of the First Lady. And she knew that anyone who scoffed on the though of the office of First Lady being important didn’t understand just how much powerful men were attracted to powerful women and just how well those women could control their men when they wanted to. In fact she was going to go confuse her’s right now.
a whole 24 hours
A whole 24 hours, that’s all Josh had given him to make a disition that would completely change his and his fiancés life. And why not as far a Josh knew that was how long it had taken him to decide the last time he did a complete turn around in his life. Josh didn’t know that for months he had been looking for a way to tell Lisa that he didn’t want to marry her anymore without outright saying “Lisa I don’t want to marry you.” Of course this time he didn’t particularly want to marry Judith, but he was resigned to the fact that he would never have who he wanted. She was a lovely women and she didn’t want him that much either, so it all worked out. And then Josh with his stupid 24 hours.
a malcontent who can spell
Sam had gotten into one of his moods again. One of his mood where he had to soak up large quantities of historic data and literary references that no one but he and president Bartlet would ever get. And in this state same had quoted at him “You’re not the Antichrist, only a malcontent who can spell.” Well, in the state Sam was in, not so much at him as near him. It made him smile, despite being total out of reality and using what could be seen as an insulting quote he had told Toby to stop worrying, he wasn’t evil, or wrong, just dissatisfied with the ability to do something about the dissatisfaction.
Beautiful
Rodney McKay was beautiful. Most people wouldn't think that; a little to pudgy, a little to rough and abrasive to be beautiful, might be able to pull off handsome or cute if he could learn to keep his mouth shut, but beautiful was pushing it. But to John Sheppard Rodney McKay was beautiful. Granted the man wasn't anything like his normal type, male or female, but how animated the man got when talking about anything from his work to what was for lunch, how passionate he was, how he could be brave but he would make sure you could see him doing it and underestimate him at the same time. Yes Rodney McKay was unconventional, but he was also beautiful.
and as a bonus two other drabbles that I have written one in response to my feelings about Jeanie and Rodney's relationship...
Normal
Rodney wished that Jeanie would stop pushing a normal life at him. Yes he loved his sister, yes he was glad to be back in contact with her, and yes he did see that she was happy with the life that she has chosen, but that didn't mean that he would be happier with her kind of life. That didn't mean that he needed anything to change in his life for him to be happy. He had the best scientific puzzles in two galaxies. He had friends, close friends who actually like him for his prickly self, not despite it who understood him at least a little and who he understood. Yes this came with life sucking aliens, so that is one thing that could change and make his life better, but nothing else needed to.

Spontaneous Magic
Sirius is quite proud of the of that he hadn't done accidental magic since he was two. Remus was the only one that had figured it out that the reason for that was because his mother would curse him to all hell if he did anything accidental, even if it wasn't harmful. That's why it was so surprising when during defense in the middle of some nameless Slytherins rant against werewolf the boy lost his voice and Sirius ran out of the class room as if something was chasing him. Professor Updyke wouldn't let Remus go after him, and couldn't undo what ever Sirius had done. James spent the rest of the class telling Remus he didn't know why Sirius had run, it was a great joke and because it was accidental magic he couldn't get into trouble for it. Remus didn't bother talking to James after the first time he said that and as soon as class was over he went out looking for Sirius. He found him, curled up as if he was in his animagi form, looking extremely pathetic as a human, in a small cubby/nook thing they had found on the 6th floor. Remus didn't say anything as he sat down next to Sirius and held him close why he continued to not cry.
